皆さん、こんにちは。日本語の先生のりこです。

今日は、ショートストーリーのシリーズ第6回目です。

タイトルは「敬老の日 -  わたしのおばあちゃん 」。

Hello everyone. I'm Noriko, a Japanese teacher.

Today is the sixth in a series of short stories.

The title is "Respect for the Aged Day-My Grandma".

このビデオでは、同じビデオを2回流します。

最初のビデオは、漢字がある字幕です。少しゆっくり読みます。

2回目のビデオは、同じビデオですが、ひらがなだけの字幕で、もっとゆっくり読みます。そして私のサイト Japanese with Noriko.com には、スクリプトと英語訳があります。それでは、ショートストーリーをお楽しみください。

This video plays the same video twice.

The first video is a subtitle with kanji. I read it a little slowly.

日本では、敬老の日という祝日があります。

敬老の日は毎年9月の第3月曜日です。

国民の祝日です。

In Japan, there is a holiday called Respect for the Aged Day.

Respect for the Aged Day is the third Monday of September every year.

It is a national holiday.

世界一の長寿国と呼ばれる日本。

たくさんの高齢者がいます。

敬老の日は、「日本の社会のためにがんばってきたお年寄りを尊敬し、健康に長生きをしてほしい」と祝う日です。

Japan is called the longest-lived country in the world.

There are many elderly people.

Respect for the Aged Day is a day to celebrate, " We respect the elderly who have worked hard for Japanese society and want them to have a long and healthy life."

今日は私のおばあちゃんの話をします。

かずこおばあちゃんはもう何年も前に亡くなりました。

私の大好きなおばあちゃんでした。

Today I will talk about my grandma.

Grandma Kazuko died many years ago.

I liked her vey much. 

私は、小学生の時、いつもおばあちゃんと一緒に過ごしていました。

お母さんもお父さんも仕事だったので、学校から帰るといつもおばあちゃんが私のことを待っていてくれました。

When I was in elementary school, I always spent time with my grandmother.

My mom and dad were both at work, so my grandma was always waiting for me when I got home from school.

おばあちゃんはとてもしつけに厳しくて、こわいおばあちゃんでした。

学校から帰ったら、すぐに宿題をさせられました。

Grandma was very strict and scary.

As soon as I got home from school, I was forced to do my homework.

そのおばあちゃんのおかげで、私は真面目な優等生でした。

宿題をきちんとするし、成績もいい小学生だったんです。

Thanks to that grandma, I was a serious and an honour student.

I was an elementary school student who always did my homework properly and had good grades.

私が中学生、高校生、大学生のとき、おばあちゃんはいつも私にお小遣いをくれました。

「のりちゃん。これで何か、のりちゃんが好きなものを買いなさいね。」

といつもお小遣いをくれました。

When I was a junior high school student, a high school student, and a college student, my grandma always gave me some pocket money.

"Nori-chan. Buy something that Nori-chan likes."

She always gave me some pocket money.

私は日本から遠いイギリスに住んでいます。

イギリスから日本に戻ったときには、必ずお墓参りに行きます。

みなさんには、おじいちゃん、おばあちゃんがいますか。

人生の先輩の高齢者のみなさんを大切にしましょう。

I live in the UK, far from Japan.

Whenever I return to Japan from the UK, I always go to visit her grave.

Do you have a grandpa or grandma?

Let's treat people very well who are much older and much more experienced
